iPhones can now Shoot Videos While Playing Music

iPhone has always stopped recording videos when audio is playing audio. This was the normal setting for previous iOS. However, with the new iOS 18 launch, that’s all going to change. Now you can play audio and record video at the same time.

iOS 18 Makes Playing Audio and Recording Video On iPhone Possible

The latest iOS 18 upgrade adds a feature in the Camera app Settings that lets you choose whether you want the audio to pause or continue playing on your iPhone when you start recording in Video mode.

After the upgrade to iOS 18, a toggle known as “Allow Audio Playback” was discovered in the camera settings under the camera sound section that is enabled by default.

Under the toggle, it described the feature this way: “Audio playback will not pause automatically when recording video.”

Further testing revealed that the feature also allows you to record video even when you’re playing music and connected to AirPods headphones or an external speaker simultaneously. This setup also uses stereo sound recording rather than mono.

How To Use The New iOS 18 Camera Update

Open the Settings app and navigate to the Camera section.
Here, tap on Record Sound and make sure the Allow Audio PlayBack toggle is turned on.
When enabled, your iPhone won’t pause audio playback when recording video.

Note that iOS 18 is only available in the Beta version, with the stable version finally arriving sometime in September along with new iPhones.

According to Stan Schroeder, due to the proximity of the iPhone’s speaker to its microphones, the sounds won’t be perfect.

He stated the resulting video sounded harsh. He further stated that to get the best result, the audio volume has to be turned down a little before recording.
